The Consul General of France in Nigeria, Mr Francois Sastourne, has
pledged the collaboration of his country to develop education in Enugu
State.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to Gov. Sullivan Chime in Enugu on
Thursday, Sastourne said such partnership would strengthen the ties
between his country and Nigeria.
"We are exploring ways to increase cooperation in all fields -
cultural, educational, commercial, industrial. I think we will find ways
to cooperate to come to Nigeria.
"What they (French businessmen) need is to be sure that they can do
good business, profitable business in safe condition. I think Enugu is
in a very good position.
"The other thing that they need is legal safety and from what I
gathered here also, the legal security is perhaps better than in some
other parts of the country; so, this is why we want to try to improve on
our relation and we want to maintain them and develop them.
"This is the purpose of my visit and I think it is very successful".
Responding, Chime said the state needed partnership with the French government to improve commerce and industries.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Mr Sunday Onyebuchi,
commended the French government for imparting its language to Nigerians
through the Alliance Francais.
"France and Nigeria have had a very good relationship over so many
years. We believe this relationship will trickle down to Enugu State in
so many areas especially in the areas of commerce, industry and other
fields where we can work with you for the benefit of our people."
Chime promised continued support to the centre, noting that it had
been an agent of culture dissemination between the two countries.
