Dating is not an easy feat for many. Most will go through quite a few failed dates before meeting, Mr. Right. To help you on your journey to love, we’ve interviewed three experienced and well-known dating coaches to share their expertise and help you on your road to finding romantic happiness.
Getting Started
Adam LoDolce, founder of the soon-to-be launched dating site Sexy Confidence, and dating expert contributor to Glamour, Cosmo, New York Magazine, and MTV, says “Socialize and socialize a lot.” LoDolce emphasizes that one of the best tips for women to remember is that dating is a numbers game. “Just like you can’t lose weight going to the gym once a month, you can’t get a great boyfriend going out once a month.”
Don’t Over Analyze On the First Date
According to Evan Marc Katz, a dating coach with features in USA Today, The Wall St. Journal, and Time Magazine, “Women tend to over-analyze every action on a first date. They need to think like men on first dates – keep it simple. If the guy wants to sleep with you, or if he thinks the date was fun, he’ll want to date you again. Simple as that,” Katz says.
Don’t Compromise On the Wrong Things
Some single women spend endless hours envisioning their ideal mate–creating a long list of non-negotiables, from how much money he makes, to his looks, and his education. Then they pursue their man-hunt based on that criteria, and are left confused when they ‘always date the wrong guys.’ “Women compromise on kindness, consistency, commitment, values, trust…women compromise on the wrong things,” Katz says.
Get Raw
Laurel House, Dating Coach and author of the upcoming dating book Screwing the Rules, says it’s time for women to ‘get raw’ when looking to develop a strong connection with someone. “Getting raw means opening up and divulging information about yourself–even if you’re not proud of it. When you reveal something that makes you vulnerable, he will feel more comfortable about opening up about himself. When he does this, you develop a connection from vulnerability, and that’s a connection he won’t have with the other women in the room,” House says.
Get Your Flirt On–the Right Way
Every woman, at some point, has to flex her flirting muscles–an agonizing experience for some. So how do certain women command the attention of the room? House explains that it’s multiple things. “Those women have a warm smile; they let their stares linger just a little bit longer with people. And most importantly, they make everyone in the room feel like they’re the most important person there.”
Master the Elevator Convo
In business, people often work on their “elevator conversations” – making sure they can impress their listener in 30-seconds. House connects the concept of “elevator conversations” to the world of dating. Thus, every impression you make with a potential suitor is important, including your response to a seemingly simple question like, “How are you?” Remember, says House, “It’s the details that make you interesting.”
How Your Vibe Affects Your Man-Hunt
You give off a certain “vibe” impacting the way others see you. For those who have high expectations or have been rejected before, meeting people can be a daunting or anxiety-ridden task. Don’t let it be! LoDolce explains that: “Being approachable is all about your ‘vibe.’ Laugh, enjoy yourself, have fun, and he’ll approach. Be miserable in a corner, and you’ll stay miserable in a corner.”"
With dating, no matter how many books you read or experts you talk to, finding the right one ultimately depends on you and nothing else. Dating will take work and time. It’s up to you to go into it with the right attitude and effort. When you finally do, you’ll find yourself having a lot more fun, and eventually, it’ll lead you to The One.
