Brazil 2014 watch: Mba, Osaze as he scores again v

Osaze Odemwingie

It was another weekend of mixed results for Nigerian internationals in the European leagues as the countdown to the Brazil 2014 World Cup continues.

Sunday Mba, who made the major headlines at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, scored his second goal in the French second division for CA Bastia in a 1-0 win over Troyes. The midfielder was in action all through 90 minutes.
Mba may have scored his second since he moved to France in January but Osaze Odemwingie had the brightest weekend hitting a brace for Stoke City. The estranged Super Eagles striker played the full game in a 3-1 win over West Ham United scoring in the 32nd and 79th minutes of the game.
Sone Aluko, who is yet to get proper attention from Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi, was a 46th minute substitute for Hull City as they lost 2-0 at home to Manchester City. The story was not different for Eagles’ captain, Joseph Yobo, as he was on the losing side. He was on for the entire duration as Norwich lost 4-2 away at Southampton on Saturday.
Eagles’ midfielder, Mikel Obi, was an unused substitute at the Villa Park as Chelsea lost 1-0 in a high-tempered match on Saturday. He was on the bench throughout the match. In Turkey, Godfrey Oboabona was on for 90 minutes as Rizespor fought Besiktas to a 2-2 draw at home. The defender had sat out five games in a row.
Efe Ambrose was in Celtic’s defence as they drilled Kilmarnock 3-0 on Saturday. The defender has not missed any match for the Scottish League leaders as the journey to Brazil draws closer.
Also, Kenneth Omeruo ensured that his English Championship side, Middlesbrough, earned a point against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday. The defender had improved tremendously since joining the club on loan from Chelsea. In the French Ligue, Eagles’ safest pair of hands, Vincent Enyeama, kept a clean sheet as Lille played a goalless draw at home against Nantes. Nigeria second choice goalkeeper, Austin Ejide, was in goal for 90 minutes as Hapoel Be’er Sheva lost 1-0 to Hapoel Ra’anana.
In Spain, Ramon Azeez’s struggling club, Almeria lost 3-1 away to Rayo Vallencano on Saturday. The midfielder played the entire match.
In Italy, Nnamdi Oduamadi, could not help Varese as they slumped to a 3-0 defeat at home in the Italian second division.  Oduamadi who played the entire match, had scored only a goal since joining the club on loan.
Ahmed Musa, in the Russian league was a 1-0 home winner as CSKA Moscow beat Zenit St. Petersburg. He played the entire duration of the match.
In Isreal, Juwon Oshaniwa was in action for 90 minutes as Ashdod, played a 1-1 draw at Hapoel Acre. The left back last featured for the Eagles at the 2013 Africa Cup  of Nations. Ogenyi Onazi was on the winning side as Lazio defeated Cagliari 2-0 on Sunday to climb to 7th in the Serie A table. The midfielder played the entire 90 minutes.
