Man Electrocuted in Jos On Top Of A NEPA Pole

A middle-aged man identified as Chukwuebuka Eze was yesterday electrocuted in Apata area of Jos, the Plateau State capital.
The incident occurred while he was trying to fix a problem on an electric pole in the area.
The 28-year-old electrician, according to witnesses, climbed the pole in Agwan Lambu quarters around noon, ostensibly to change the supply phase to his shop when the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, suddenly restored light, electrocuting him instantly.
A witness said Eze’s shirt caught fire and burned while his body remained glued to the pole. There was a spark which drew the attention of neighbours who watched helplessly as they could do nothing to help.
A woman, identified as one of Eze’s neighbours, was said to have screamed as she came out and saw him on fire.
The woman described the incident as “terrible and horrifying”. Some onlookers rushed to the PHCN office to report the incident. It took the combined effort of PHCN officials and some concerned residents to bring down Eze’s body from the pole.
Three policemen and the PHCN officials later took the corpse away.
Sympathisers gathered in groups to discuss the incident and the manner electricity installations were being tampered with in the area.
